Vedomosti: Russia’s defense spending in 2022 increased by a third

Russia’s spending on national defense in 2022 is estimated at 4.679 trillion rubles. This is 1.2 trillion rubles. more than was approved in the budget for 2022–2024 (3.51 trillion rubles). The document clarifies that in general, over the three-year period, spending on national defense, security and law enforcement will average 5.7% of GDP. Significant funds are planned to be allocated for the “restoration of friendly territories and the strengthening of national defense,” but specific amounts have not been named.

Against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, Vladimir Putin instructed to increase the production capacity of a number of defense industry enterprises (DIC). According to him, it is necessary to achieve “100% import substitution”, as well as “in the shortest possible time” to increase the production capabilities of the defense industry.
