Russian online retailer Wildberries intends to become a full-fledged warehouse developer, sources said “Vedomosti”. The company will build logistics parks for other market participants. A Wildberries representative only confirmed that the retailer is “considering the possibility of developing the direction of commercial real estate construction.”
Wildberries’ portfolio, according to Nikoliers, includes more than 4.2 million sq. m. m of existing and future warehouse complexes throughout the country. Initially, the company attracted professional developers to build facilities, but over the past few years the retailer has been building facilities itself, creating the general contractor VB Development.
According to Igor Krotenkov, director of warehouse and industrial premises at IBC Real Estate, Wildberries has territories that are not planned to be used in the near future for their own needs. The company bought 30 hectares of land in almost every region of the Russian Federation, in some – more than 100 hectares.
In mid-January, the Wildberries warehouse burned down in Shushary; the fire area was 70 thousand square meters. m. According to the authorities, the warehouse operated illegally; it did not have an application for commissioning. The company claims that the warehouse has received a conclusion on compliance with city planning regulations and safety requirements. According to Kommersant, Wildberries will focus on building a new facility. Given the shortage of premises, the company temporarily rented them from other players – retailers VseInstrumenty.ru and Lenta.
