AvtoVAZ faced a temporary shortage of paints and varnishes, reports Vedomosti with reference to a representative of the company and dealers of the brand. Lada cars can now be ordered only in white, black and dark green colors, while other colors will be available no earlier than March. Prior to this, Lada cars were presented in six to eight colors.
The automaker told the publication that they are working on various scenarios for solving the problem. “The absence of some nomenclature items of paints and varnishes does not affect the planned production volumes and is of a short-term nature. The situation will be stabilized in the near future,” AvtoVAZ said.
A top manager of one of the regional dealers of the brand said that from November-December 2022, AvtoVAZ began painting cars of the Granta family in two colors – black and white. Niva Legend, Travel and Bronto are available in dark green, commercial Lada – in white. This trend continues into the first quarter of 2023. There is no information for April.
The car body after welding and before priming and basic painting, depending on the technological process, undergoes from 7 to 11 baths, including degreasing, washing, phosphating, cataphoresis. Next, apply polyester primer, base enamel, varnish.
Vedomosti found out that AvtoVAZ uses German Eisenmann painting complexes. They are connected to paint tanks through pipelines. Typically, the system can supply seven to ten colors to the spray booth. Recently, the manufacturer has used Basf and Henkel car enamels. According to the expert, AvtoVAZ has problems not only with enamels, but also with components for German painting complexes.
