Assistant to the President of Russia Yuri Ushakov commented on the categorical refusal of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky from negotiations with Vladimir Putin. Mr. Ushakov responded to the Ukrainian president with the phrase “Never say never.”
Journalists asked the presidential aide how the Kremlin reacted to Mr. Zelensky’s statements. “Everyone knows Zelensky’s statements that he will not negotiate with Putin. In this regard, I will recall the well-known phrase: “Never say never,” said Mr. Ushakov (quoted by TASS).
Russian-Ukrainian negotiations have been discontinued in May at the initiative of Kyiv. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spokethat the West forbade Ukraine to continue negotiations. Minister arguedthat Russia does not refuse them.
On September 30, after the annexation of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics to Russia, as well as the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, Mr. Zelensky informed about refusing to negotiate with Vladimir Putin. On October 4, Vladimir Zelensky officially introduced the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on the impossibility of negotiations with the current president of Russia.
