After Moscow’s withdrawal from the “grain agreement”, the US authorities intend to carefully monitor Russia’s actions in the Black Sea. This was stated at a briefing by John Kirby, coordinator of the White House National Security Council.
Washington calls on the Russian side to return to compliance with the terms of the “grain agreement”, since this document involves the delivery of food by civilian ships to people who need it. It is noted that the United States will continue to monitor how Russia will behave in this context.
“We obviously continue to urge Russia to return to the ‘grain deal’ and we will be watching very closely how they decide to proceed in this regard,” Kirby said.
Russia’s withdrawal from the Black Sea Initiative occurred on July 17, when the Kremlin refused to renew the agreement. President Vladimir Putin has said that Russia is ready to re-establish its participation in the “grain deal” only if the West complies with certain Russian demands. In this regard, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that it would consider ships sent to the ports of Ukraine as potential military targets.
