US President Joe Biden approved the allocation of a new $675 million military aid package to Ukraine, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said at a regular meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group at the Ramstein military base in Germany, which was broadcast was conducted on the Pentagon’s Twitter.
“Yesterday, President Joe Biden approved the allocation of the next tranche of military assistance in the amount of $675 million,” he said.
The new aid package includes HARM anti-radar missiles, M101 105mm howitzers and their rounds, Humvee jeeps, anti-tank systems, small arms and ammunition.
At the end of August, Biden announced on the allocation of a $ 2.98 billion aid package for Ukraine. This tranche is expected to allow Ukraine to purchase air defense systems, artillery systems, various ammunition, drones and radars to ensure “long-term self-defense.”
Earlier, Ukraine has repeatedly stated that it needs the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS MLRS to respond to Russian strikes. However, the American authorities were in no hurry to provide the Ukrainian authorities with such weapons. In May, Biden expelled the possibility of transferring missile systems to Ukraine that are capable of reaching Russian territory.
As a result, the deliveries of the HIMARS MLRS to Ukraine nevertheless took place, however, as US National Security Assistant Jake Sullivan reported, the Pentagon does not intend to supply the Armed Forces with missiles with a range of 300 km. He added that the United States is doing everything necessary to support and protect Ukraine, but “another important goal is to prevent circumstances under which we would move in the direction of a third world war,” transmitted TASS.
