Anthony Blinken said on Wednesday that he had appointed Lewis Bono as senior adviser to the State Department on the negotiation process in the Caucasus, Interfax reports.
A US foreign policy statement quoted by the agency said that Bono will work with the leaders of the Caucasus region “to advance the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.”
It also notes that the new adviser has rich diplomatic experience, Bono, in particular, worked at the US Mission to the IAEA and the UN in Vienna.
He will “engage with like-minded partners, including the EU” as well as “with international organizations such as the OSCE to promote direct dialogue” between Yerevan and Baku.
Earlier it was reported that Philip Reeker is leaving this post. The State Department noted that his work as a senior adviser to the US Secretary of State for negotiations in the Caucasus has accelerated interaction and helped build the structure of the peace process in the South Caucasus.
