The US military launched a strike in Syria that killed the leader of ISIS (a terrorist organization banned in Russia), Osama al-Muhajir, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.
According to the command, the United States launched a strike in Syria on July 7. The military used an American MQ-9 drone for the attack. There are no signs that civilians were the victims of the strike, reports of the wounded are being studied, the report says.
The elimination of the leader of the organization, as noted by CENTCOM, will reduce the ability of ISIS to plan and carry out terrorist attacks. The command said that ISIS still remains a threat not only to the region, but also in places “far beyond it.” The operations of the US military, along with partners in Iraq and Syria, will continue until the final defeat of the group.
In July last year, US military forces used drones in Syria to strike two high-ranking members of the IS, one of them was killed. The US military presence in Syria is still maintained, despite the protests of local authorities, who call the presence of US troops in their country illegal.
