US presidential candidate urges Ukraine to “make concessions”

Ukraine will have to make “major concessions” to Russia in order to end the conflict. Such a statement did US Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on ABC News.

“I think we need to put an end to hostilities in Ukraine on peaceful terms, which will have to make serious concessions to Russia,” he said.

Among the possible concessions, the politician called “freezing the current line of contact” in the ceasefire agreement “in the style of the Korean War” and NATO’s obligation to prevent Ukraine from joining the alliance. In return, Russia should withdraw from the joint military agreement with China, Ramaswamy added.

The politician noted that the task of the President of the United States is to take care of “American interests.” In his opinion, the conflict in Ukraine is not “the main foreign policy priority” of the country. The presidential candidate added that “threat number one” for the United States is cooperation between Russia and China. “By continuing to arm Ukraine, we are pushing Russia into the hands of China,” he explained.

The Russian special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. During the hostilities, Russian troops took full control of the LPR, as well as most of the DPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Subsequently, these territories became part of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, Ukraine and Western countries refused to recognize the results of the referenda. In early November 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the G20 summit, listed 10 conditions for the “Ukrainian peace formula”, among which are the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, the withdrawal of Russian troops from its territory, fixing the end of the conflict, as well as ensuring food and energy and nuclear safety.

In response, the Russian authorities said that Zelensky’s “peace formula” had nothing to do with peace, and notedthat Kyiv is not ready for dialogue. June 2, Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov emphasizedthat Russia sees no prerequisites for negotiations with Ukraine.
