US plans to contain China for decades

First Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks told a seminar in Washington on military modernization that the rivalry between the US and China will continue for generations to come. Hicks noted that the US goal is to contain China, not conflict with it.
According to her, the main measure of success for the Pentagon is that the Chinese leadership does not decide on risky aggression against the United States. The US goal is to continue pushing for Beijing to “think like this today and every day until 2027, until 2035, until 2049 and beyond.”
China is a challenge for generations, and although the country will change, it will not disappear anywhere. The US believes that the constant rivalry with China will help it gain an advantage that can be achieved through the modernization of weapons.
At the same time, Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang expressed the need for a deep rethinking of US policy towards China, urging them to move closer in cooperation and help China-US relations get out of the difficult situation and return to normal.
