The US Navy aircraft carrier “Dwight Eisenhower” at the head of the strike group arrived in the Middle East, RIA Novosti reports citing the Pentagon’s central command.

“The strike group led by the aircraft carrier Dwight Eisenhower arrived in the Middle East in the area of responsibility of the central command as a reinforcement of representation in the region,” the statement said.

It is noted that in addition to the aircraft carrier itself, the group included a missile cruiser and destroyers, as well as nine aviation squadrons.

Earlier it was reported that a strike group led by the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford had arrived in the Mediterranean region.

Earlier, the Pentagon reported that the United States is currently deploying about 900 additional troops in the Middle East, and the contingent will also include air defense system operators. It was also reported that thousands of US Marines had landed in Israel. It also became known that the United States will deploy missile and air defense systems in the Middle East – a battery of THAAD systems, as well as additional Patriot systems.

The United States said that the purpose of strengthening the American presence in the region is to “deter third parties from expanding escalation around Israel.” At the same time, it was stated that the United States does not intend to fight on the side of Israel, and there are no plans for the participation of American forces in operations to free US citizens held hostage.
