In the skies over Syria on Sunday, an American MQ-9 drone of the coalition forces approached a Russian Su-34 fighter jet of the Russian Aerospace Forces at an altitude of 5,000 meters near the village of Raqqa. This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in the Arab Republic, Rear Admiral Oleg Gurinov.
During the briefing, he noted that the distance between the MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle and the Su-34 fighter was less than 100 meters in height. Gurinov also stressed that this flight of the Coalition drone was not previously agreed with the Russian military. Thanks to the professionalism of the Russian pilots and their prompt actions, a collision was avoided.
This is not the first case of violation of the deconfliction protocols by the “Coalition”. Over the past 24 hours, as many as 12 such incidents have been recorded. In the Al-Tanf area, in particular, 13 violations were recorded, including four times when pairs of F-16 fighters, two pairs of F-35 fighters and one Coalition MQ-1C multi-role unmanned aerial vehicle did not comply with established rules.
