US is running out of money to help Ukraine

Funds from the US aid package to Ukraine totaling $48 billion, approved in December 2022, may run out by mid-summer, according to the American publication Politico. According to him, now only $6 billion of these funds are left, and the approval of a new package in Congress will take time and will lead to a disruption in the supply of weapons and military equipment to Kyiv. An uninterrupted supply of weapons to Ukraine is all the more important in view of the announced counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but whether the next measures of the Biden administration will be sufficient and timely is still an open question, the newspaper writes.

Politico sources report that discussions are already underway in the American leadership about providing another aid package to Kyiv. As a senior administration official told the publication, the White House is discussing the timely resumption of funding for support for Ukraine. According to the source, the authorities do not fully understand how the demands of the Ukrainian side may change in the course of hostilities, but in general they intend to continue to support Kyiv. In turn, Republican Senator Susan Collins also expressed hope that the administration will provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance in time. “Hopefully they won’t wait until the last moment if Ukrainians need more before the end of the financial year [в октябре]”, she stressed.
