The US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control is imposing sanctions on a network of five companies and one individual for supporting Iran in procurement for Iran’s UAV program.
It is specified that the specified network is located in China, it is responsible “for the sale and delivery of thousands of aerospace components, including components that can be used to create UAVs.” According to the US, these components may be shipped to the Iranian Aircraft Industry Company (HESA), which was involved in the production of the Shahed-136 model.
According to US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Brian Nelson, these drones were subsequently exported to Russia and used during a special operation in Ukraine.
The Russian side has repeatedly stressed that the statements about the supply of Iranian drones to Russia are unsubstantiated. In particular, at the end of 2022, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov indicated to the fact that Western countries do not even try to present any facts. The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya also spoke about this, according to him, all accusations against Russia in this regard are far-fetched.
