Washington has decided to ease the sanctions regime against the oil, gas and gold mining sectors of Venezuela, Reuters reports. According to the agency, the White House took this step after the conclusion of an agreement between the government and the Venezuelan opposition on organizing elections in the country in 2024.
According to an official statement from the US Treasury Department, the general oil license will be valid for six months, with a possible extension, subject to Venezuela’s compliance with its election obligations.
Along with the approval for oil and gas operations, the Ministry of Finance also granted a general license for interaction with the state-owned gold mining company Minerven.
