US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo flew to China on August 27, where she will stay on an official visit until August 30, according to Bloomberg and the Financial Times. She assured Beijing that the United States is committed to “healthy competition” and does not intend to impede China’s economic progress, but will not compromise on national security.

On the first day of her official program, August 28, Raimondo had a conversation with China’s Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao. It was already the second round of negotiations for them in 2023 – before that, in May, it was this Chinese minister who visited the United States, resuming interstate dialogue there (the pause had lasted since February due to the incident with the Chinese balloon). Now Raimondo noted that the whole world wants to see stable economic relations between the United States and China, the annual trade turnover of which exceeds $700 billion (officially in 2022 it amounted to $690.59 billion – Vedomosti).
