The United States will send another $2.5 billion military aid package to Ukraine. says in a Pentagon statement.
As part of the new package, Washington will transfer 59 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 590 missiles for their TOW anti-tank missile systems and 295,000 25mm ammunition to Kyiv. The tranche also included eight M1097 Avenger surface-to-air missile systems (SAMs), 90 Stryker armored vehicles, additional ammunition for NASAMS and HIMARS, and 53 armored vehicles with enhanced mine protection of the MRAP class.
In addition, the United States will transfer to Ukraine 350 HMMWV armored vehicles, artillery shells of various calibers, Claymore anti-personnel mines, about 2,000 anti-tank missiles and other types of weapons.
The Pentagon noted that since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Washington’s military assistance to Kyiv has exceeded $26.7 billion. In total, $29.5 billion has been allocated since 2014.
This package of military assistance was not the largest support from the United States. In early January, the White House announced a decision to transfer weapons worth $3 billion to Kyiv.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized Western financial and military assistance to Ukraine. In particular, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warnedthat pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
