US Admiral Stavridis: Moscow risks provoking direct war with NATO

According to the former NATO commander in Europe, US Admiral James Stavridis, the Russian leadership could provoke a direct clash with the military bloc if it continues to intercept ships in international waters, trying to economically strangle Ukraine.
As reported by Politico, Stavridis believes that escalation at sea, including the landing of Russian troops on a Turkish ship, could lead to NATO members being forced to respond to such situations in order to prevent the collapse of the Ukrainian economy.
“By its actions, Russia creates a real risk of an escalation of the situation with NATO in the international waters of the Black Sea. If Russia starts hijacking ships or tries to scare them away with its warships, then, in my opinion, NATO will most likely respond to such actions by supporting a humanitarian corridor for shipping,” Stavridis explained.
According to him, NATO countries could protect ships going to Odessa and back, using combat aircraft and fleets for escort.
Earlier it was reported that in the Black Sea, the patrol vessel “Vasily Bykov” of the Russian Navy stopped the Turkish dry cargo ship “Sukra Okan”, en route to the port of the Ukrainian city of Izmail. First, the dry cargo ship flew around the Ka-29 helicopter, then special forces landed on the deck, who went into the wheelhouse and demanded a captain.
