Uralchem ​​agreed to export fertilizers blocked in Europe to Africa

On November 8, the Uralchem-Uralkali group of companies signed an agreement for the supply of the first batch of fertilizers to Malawi and is discussing the organization of deliveries of more than 260 thousand tons of fertilizers to Africa. We are talking about batches of fertilizers blocked in warehouses in Belgium, the Netherlands and Estonia, said TASS Director General of UCC “Uralchem” Dmitry Konyaev. Earlier, the group supplied 23.5 thousand tons of complex fertilizer from Russia to Burkina Faso as humanitarian aid.

“The Uralchem-Uralkali group of companies is actively working with the UN to organize free deliveries to Africa of more than 262,000 tons of mineral fertilizers that were “frozen” in the EU countries,” said Mr. Konyaev. Under the contract dated November 8, Malawi will be supplied with 20,000 tons from a warehouse in the Netherlands, said the head of UCC Uralchem, noting that the distribution of fertilizers is coordinated through the African Union, and the company supplies fertilizers at its own expense.

Earlier, the European Commission (EC) unblocked the supply of Russian fertilizers as part of a grain deal, but on August 10, the EC clarified that only EU countries can buy Russian fertilizers.

In September, President Vladimir Putin informedthat Russian producers are ready to transfer their potash fertilizers accumulated in European ports to developing countries free of charge. Also Mr Putin addressed to the UN secretariat with a request to require the EC to remove restrictions for developing countries on Russian fertilizers.

Recently, the UN reported that the first batch of Russian fertilizers blocked in EU ports will go to Malawi next week.
