Aisen Nikolaev said that United Russia nominated him as a candidate for the election of the head of Yakutia. President Vladimir Putin formerly supported his nomination for another term.
“Today, the conference of the United Russia party nominated me as a candidate for the post of head of the republic. I am grateful to my fellow party members for their trust in me,” wrote Mr. Nikolaev “In contact with”.
Aisen Nikolaev in 2007-2011 headed the administration of the President and the Government of Yakutia. In 2012-2018 he worked as the mayor of Yakutsk. In 2018 he headed Yakutia. In the last elections, he won more than 71% of the vote.
According to the Foundation for the Development of Civil Society, if a strong opponent is put up in the elections in Yakutia, then a second round may take place. Experts note that in 2018 the successor of Mr. Nikolaev lost in the mayoral elections, the region had one of the worst results in voting on amendments to the Constitution, in 2021 the Communist Party overtook United Russia in the elections to the State Duma.
