Following the results of the single voting day 2023, the number of female deputies in the United Russia factions has increased. Voters elected 8,040 women from the party in power, of which 7,789 were elected to local governments, and 251 were elected to the level of legislative assemblies and administrative centers, according to the report of the United Russia Women’s Movement.
At the level of legislative assemblies and administrative centers, the most active women deputies were in the DPR, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Khakassia, the Kemerovo region – Kuzbass, and the Novgorod region. At the local government level, they were most popular in the Belgorod, Ryazan, Tula, Irkutsk regions, the Altai Republic, and the Khabarovsk Territory.
As Natalia Poluyanova, coordinator of the Women’s Movement of United Russia, told Vedomosti, the average portrait of such a deputy looks like this: these are women aged 35 to 55 years with one or two higher educations, working as entrepreneurs, doctors, teachers, or engaged social activities and volunteering, including helping the military. Most of them are married and with children, Poluyanova emphasized. “Our participants not only have a holistic picture of the accumulated problems and proposals in many areas of life, but also ways to solve them through the prism of the most ordinary person. Because the absolute majority are caring, active, kind, responsible women,” said Poluyanova.
Secretary of the General Council of United Russia Andrei Turchak, at a joint meeting of the bureau of the Supreme Council and the Presidium of the General Council of the party following the voting results, added that the candidates were accompanied by mentors of the party project “Women’s Movement of United Russia” and the higher party school.
United Russia retained its leadership in the elections held on September 8-10. In the elections to the regional parliament, United Russia received the most votes (70-80%) in the annexed regions of Russia. The party showed an average result in percentage terms (50-60%) in Yakutia (54.36%), Trans-Baikal Territory (56.94%), Vladimir (55.47%), Arkhangelsk (50.18%), Irkutsk (54 .6%), Smolensk (57.39%) regions.
