The Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) published data according to the unemployment rate in the EU and eurozone as of November. Across the 27-nation European Union, the unemployment rate was reported at 5.9% (up from 6% in October), returning to the lowest level last seen in May last year. In the 20-country euro zone, the unemployment rate also returned to the record low of 6.4% previously recorded in June.
The lowest unemployment rates of all EU countries in November were recorded in the Czech Republic (2.4%), Malta (2.5%) and Poland (2.8%). The highest is in Spain (11.9%) and Greece (9.4%).
Economists expectedthat the unemployment rate in the eurozone will remain unchanged compared to October, as GDP contracted by 0.1% in the third quarter. But it was lower than expected, which experts say will help workers push for more concessions from employers on wages after months of record high inflation last year.
