UN urges Iranian authorities to investigate death of girl detained over hijab

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights has called on Iran to investigate the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini.
Recall that Amini died after being detained by the vice police because of the incorrectly worn hijab. She died of a heart attack after four days in a coma, some media reported that the police tortured her.
“The tragic death of Mahsa Amini and allegations of torture and ill-treatment must be promptly, impartially and effectively investigated by an independent competent body, which, in particular, will ensure that her family has access to justice and truth,” the UN Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights said in a statement. Nady Al-Nashif.
The UN recalled that thousands of people took to the streets in protest after the death of the girl. Authorities responded by using live ammunition, grenade launchers and tear gas, and two people are known to have died.
Previously Iranian police called Amini’s death was an “accident”.
