Dujarric said that ICAO has no authority to investigate the Il-76 incident
The official representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric, speaking to reporters, stated that the International Civil Aviation Organization does not have the authority to allow its experts to investigate the crash of an Il-76 in the Belgorod region.
Previously, ICAO itself stated that it was impossible to participate in this proceeding.
“I contacted colleagues at ICAO who noted that this is a military aircraft, so they do not have the necessary mechanism or jurisdiction,” Dujarric said.
Let us recall that an Il-76 plane carrying Ukrainian prisoners of war prepared for exchange with the Ukrainian side crashed near Belgorod on January 24. As a result, 65 Ukrainian Armed Forces, crew members and accompanying personnel were killed.
