UN General Assembly to hold emergency meeting on Palestine

The UN General Assembly will hold a special emergency session on Palestine on October 26. About it it says in a letter from the President of the UN General Assembly, Dennis Francis, published on the website of the UN General Assembly.
“When the Security Council [ООН] cannot act, the General Assembly must step up,” Francis said (cit. via Al Jazeera).
It is clarified that the emergency session was convened at the request of Jordan and Mauritania. The letters were sent to the UN General Assembly on October 19.
The UN Security Council is currently working on a resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and is considering the version of the document proposed by the United States. On October 9, the meeting on the war between Israel and Hamas ended without adopting a final resolution. Then France, Great Britain, Japan and the United States spoke out against the Russian draft resolution calling for a ceasefire. Another six states abstained. Later, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya reportedthat this vote showed who really wants a truce and who is pursuing political goals.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, when the Palestinian group Hamas began military operations against Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, striking hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government announced that the country had entered a state of war. As a result of the fighting, according to the latest data, about 6,500 people were killed, including 5,087 from the Gaza Strip.
