Member countries of the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopted a resolution on non-recognition of referendums on joining the Russian Federation Donetsk, Lugansk people’s republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
143 states voted for this anti-Russian document, 5 voted against, 35 more abstained.
It should be noted that Russia itself, Belarus, Nicaragua, North Korea and Syria spoke out against the resolution.
China, India, Pakistan, South Africa and most of the CIS countries abstained.
“The UN General Assembly does not recognize referendums in the Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions of Ukraine. We call on all countries, international organizations and UN specialized structures not to recognize changes in the status of these regions,” the adopted document says.
