UN expresses concern over reports of wiretapping of Guterres

The UN has officially expressed its concern to the United States over reports of wiretapping of Secretary General António Guterres. This was stated by the representative of the Secretary General to the UN Stephane Dujarric, writes TASS.

“We have formally expressed our concerns to the host over recent reports that conversations between the Secretary General and other senior UN officials have been the subject of eavesdropping and interference by US authorities,” he said.

Dujarric stressed that these actions are inconsistent with the obligations of the United States, which were enshrined in the UN Charter and the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the UN.

A few days ago the British news service BBC reportedthat the United States could listen in on António Guterres’ conversations with his deputy. This became known thanks to classified US documents that got into the network. In particular, one of these documents contained information that Guterres was ready to “meet the interests of Russia” in order to save the grain deal, including making efforts to “improve Moscow’s export opportunities”, even if they concern companies and people under sanctions.

On April 6, the New York Times reported that the Pentagon was investigating a leak of classified US and NATO papers detailing the state of Ukrainian forces and plans to build them up ahead of a counteroffensive. The documents talk about the schedules for the supply of weapons, the number of troops, the expenditure of ammunition, etc.

On April 7, 100 confidential US documents were published on Twitter, including those related to Ukraine, the Middle East and China. The anonymous 4chan forum, according to the NYT, also featured a map of the battles for Artyomovsk (the Ukrainian name is Bakhmut) and confidential slides of briefings about China, the Indo-Pacific region and the Middle East.
