UN Commissioner General Lazzarini: Gaza has become uninhabitable

Life in the Gaza Strip has become impossible, Commissioner General of the UN Relief Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) Philippe Lazzarini said at a press conference in Geneva.

“I returned from Gaza to take part in this forum. This was my third visit to the place since the beginning of the war. And each time the situation gets worse. Today Gaza is no longer a livable place,” he said.

Lazzarini also noted that after the resumption of hostilities on December 1, the UN lost access to the northern part of the enclave. This further aggravated the current humanitarian situation in the region.

At the end of November, the parties declared a ceasefire for seven days for the exchange of prisoners. At this time, humanitarian organizations were able to send trucks with fuel, water and various aids to Gaza. On December 1, the truce was canceled.
