UN agency requests $104 million for emergency aid to Gaza

The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) is requesting $104 million for multi-disciplinary humanitarian assistance over 90 days. About it reported on the agency’s website.
It is specified that the funds will be used to meet the immediate needs for food, non-food items, health care, shelter and protection for 250,000 people seeking asylum in UNRWA shelters in the Gaza Strip, and another 250,000 Palestinian refugees within the community. This will take into account the needs of vulnerable groups, including women, children, people with disabilities and the elderly.
“UNRWA continues to face a debilitating financial crisis, with current funding only sufficient to continue providing regular services to the region until the end of October. These include education, health care and social protection,” the statement said.
“To ensure that our life-saving work in Gaza and throughout the region continues and remains a lifeline for millions of Palestinian refugees throughout the region, I call on UNRWA donors and partners to increase their financial support,” said the agency’s Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini.
11 October UNRWA stated about the death of 11 of its employees in Gaza. They included five UNRWA school teachers, one gynecologist, one engineer, one psychologist and three support staff. Some were killed in their homes with their families.
