Russian Umka drone shot down Ukrainian Baba Yaga:
The Russian drone “Umka” shot down a heavy Ukrainian drone “Baba Yaga” in an air battle, the commander of the drone crew with the call sign “Anchor” told RIA Novosti.
According to him, the events unfolded in the Kherson direction. “Umka” is a Russian quadcopter equipped with a thermal imager.
“I saw this device (“Babu Yaga”), huge, large batteries heating up, five or six propellers, depending on the size… while flying at night at a certain altitude, it was shot down,” said “Anchor”.
He also noted that air battles between Russian and Ukrainian drones occur quite often.
The general name “Baba Yaga” refers to a type of drone for agricultural purposes that has a large payload, good navigation and autonomous movement. These are heavy industrial drones – hexocopters, converted by the Ukrainian Armed Forces for combat missions. They are quite large in size, with very noisy propellers, low speed and low flight. The Baba Yaga drone is usually equipped with several radio channels, protected from navigation interference at different frequencies. They can fly along a route in accordance with a given program without communication with the operator, that is, autonomously. Such drones are usually used for spraying fields – they have a large payload capacity, so they are capable of carrying charges weighing up to 40-50 kg.
