Ulyanov: in the event of an escalation between NATO and Russia, Finland will be the first to suffer

Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said that Russia does not see any benefit for Finland from joining NATO.

He clarified that after joining the alliance, in the event of a military escalation between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance, this country will be the first to suffer.

According to him, Moscow representatives have traditionally viewed Finland as a “neutral and, in general, friendly country” with which it has good neighborly relations. But the country’s entry into NATO prompted the Russian Federation to take reciprocal steps, including the decision to re-establish the Moscow and Leningrad military districts

“There can always be retaliatory measures. I don’t see how Finland will benefit from this. The country found itself between NATO and Russia, as an integral part of the alliance. They are our neighbors, and God forbid if any aggravation occurs. In this case, Finland itself will suffer first. I wouldn’t want this,” Ulyanov noted.
