On Monday and Tuesday alone, in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), increased Ukrainian shelling killed at least seven civilians and injured 29 more. Most of the tragic cases happened in Donetsk. Among the dead were the deputy of the people’s council Maria Pirogova and the judge of the military court Viktor Isaev.

According to the representative office of the DPR in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Issues Related to War Crimes of Ukraine (JCCC), on December 6, shelling of the republic began at 7.30 am. Gorlovka was the first to be hit, where the non-working Stirol chemical plant was damaged, and in the afternoon it was again under fire from the Ukrainian military. Makeevka, Yasinovataya and their environs were also fired upon. In Yasinovataya, the Verkhnekalmiusskaya filtration station was damaged, from which water is supplied to the city, one of the five districts of Makeevka – Chervonogvardeisky – and most of Donetsk.

Less than an hour after the attacks on Horlivka, shelling of Donetsk began, five of the nine districts of the city were in the affected area. The main blows hit the center – Voroshilovsky and Kievsky districts, where important administrative buildings are concentrated, including government and parliament buildings, office and retail sites, universities and hospitals.

This part of the city is divided into quarters by streets running from north to south and avenues crossing them. Most of the shelling occurs in the area along the central highways, Artem and Universitetskaya streets, 6 km long – from Lagutenko Avenue to Shakhterskaya Square. Over the past 24 hours (from 6:00 a.m. last day to 6:00 a.m. today – for such a period daily statistics are calculated, which are published by the JCCC), all cases of death and injury as a result of shelling of civilians in the region occurred in Donetsk, these are four dead and seven wounded, on December 6, the defense headquarters has already reported three dead and 14 wounded only in the Voroshilovsky district of the republican capital. Residential buildings are seriously affected by shells: their walls and roofs, gas pipelines and heating mains. At the same time, since last week it has been -4 °C in Donetsk, since the beginning of this week, the air temperature is below zero during the day.

Since the beginning of the week, the Stolichny business center in Donetsk, where a number of ministries and offices of some deputies are located, the large shopping center Donetsk City, the central market and department store, the city youth center, a technical school, an athletics arena of the Technical University, and the academic building of the Academy have been damaged. administration and civil service, three kindergartens and two schools and other public facilities, dozens of private and apartment buildings.

The statistics of the territorial defense headquarters show that since the beginning of December, at least 14 civilians have been killed in the DPR from Ukrainian shelling, and 59 more have been injured.

According to the JCCC, at noon on December 5, since the beginning of the current escalation of the conflict in the Donbass (February 17), 4,363 civilians have died and 3,840 have been injured in the controlled territory of the DPR, taking into account the regions of the republic that came under the control of the Russian Federation during a special military operation.
