Security forces came to the Ascension Banchensky Monastery, which belongs to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC). This was reported by the local media “Strana.ua”.
Metropolitan Longin stated that they were “attacked like bandits.”
“The military with machine guns and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) attacked us like bandits and scared the children,” he said.
It is noted that the gathered priests and parishioners did not allow the security forces inside. Representatives of the SBU, the publication writes, did not state the reasons for their visit and did not show documents giving the right to inspect the monastery.
Earlier in the United States they criticized the law planned for adoption in Ukraine onban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. University of Pennsylvania professor William Burke-White called the document “brazen” in a column on The Hill website.
In his opinion, this law will not only deprive millions of Ukrainians of freedom of religion, but will also undermine the “main pillar of protection” of Ukraine – compliance with laws.
