Ukrainian oligarchs impoverished: Akhmetov lost two-thirds of his fortune

Poroshenko and Kolomoisky are no longer billionaires, but millionaires

The “deoligarchization” of Ukraine, which President Zelensky sought with varying success for two years, came about by itself with the start of the Russian NWO. Summing up the results of the year, Forbes Ukraine reports that the majority of wealthy Ukrainians have become significantly poorer over the past year. They still have enough money, but the losses are colossal.

At the same time, Rinat Akhmetov, although he lost two-thirds of his fortune, still remains a dollar billionaire, but the ex-president of the country Petro Poroshenko and the ex-sponsor of the current president Zelensky Igor Kolomoisky left the “club of billionaires”. For different reasons…

The most affected can be called Rinat Akhmetov, who back in February of this year had a fortune of $13.7 billion, and now it is only $4.2 billion. And this is not surprising, if you remember where his main assets are located.

Back in the spring, the metallurgical group Metinvest, owned by Akhmetov, lost more than $9 billion, having lost Azovstal and the Ilyich plant in Mariupol. % of land.

However, at those enterprises of Akhmetov that remained on Ukrainian territory, things are not going well. Due to power outages and low demand for iron ore, his mining and processing plants in Krivoy Rog are idle. And since October 10, another of Akhmetov’s largest businesses, DTEK energy holding, has suffered catastrophic losses. Transformers, power lines and power plants are destroyed. The company’s managers say that “the cost of the equipment needed for recovery is “hundreds of millions of dollars.”

But Akhmetov got rid of his media assets voluntarily. He closed online publications and handed over to the state the frequencies of TV channels of the Ukraina media group. At the same time, Akhmetov is trying his best to maintain good relations with the Office of President Zelensky, generously “unfastening” to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine and humanitarian goals. Since the beginning of the CBO, he has donated more than UAH 3 billion for these needs. And it is reported that, in agreement with Zelensky, he will invest money to maintain the country’s medical facilities.

What happens to those who do not want to share was shown by the experience of the former oligarch Igor Kolomoisky. Since the beginning of the NWO, he decided to “step aside.” As a result, instead of $1.8 billion of last year’s income, he now has only $850 million. Moreover, unlike Akhmetov, he did not lose much from the actual hostilities. Well, except that the Kremenchug oil refinery, owned by the structures of Igor Kolomoisky, suspended its work due to shelling.

Kolomoisky lost the bulk of his assets at the suggestion of the President’s Office. At the beginning of November 2022, the Ukrnafta and Ukrtatnafta companies were nationalized, whose shares were alienated in favor of the state. Before nationalization, the Privat group of Igor Kolomoisky and Gennady Bogolyubov owned about 42% of the shares of Ukrnafta, which amounted to approximately $314 million. In Ukrtatnafta, the share of Kolomoisky and Bogolyubov was 28%. At the same time, Ukrainian experts suggest that it was profitable for Kolomoisky to transfer the shares of unprofitable enterprises to the state now.

The current millionaire has metallurgical and chemical enterprises. These are Nikopol and Zaporozhye ferroalloy plants, which are among the largest producers of ferroalloys in the world. As well as Marganetsky and Pokrovsky mining and processing plants, which provide ferroalloy plants with raw materials. These assets have now fallen in price by half, but still bring income. True, now the factories have stopped because of the blackout. So far, DniproAzot continues to operate, which produces fertilizers for farmers and is the only enterprise in Ukraine producing liquid chlorine, which is used by water utilities for water purification.

Kolomoisky managed to keep his channel “1 + 1 media” due to the fact that he became a participant in the telethon. But the channel does not bring money now, because there is no advertising there. However, next year the channel received state funding.

And, of course, Kolomoisky’s business is saved by a network of gas stations throughout the country. Gasoline is expensive these days.

Ex-president Petro Poroshenko, who ceased to be a billionaire at the beginning of this year, suffered the least from SVO. The fact is that even before a criminal case was initiated against Poroshenko on charges of treason and his property was seized, Petr Alekseevich quickly transferred all his main assets, including the Roshen confectionery corporation, to his son Alexei. Petro Poroshenko still has agricultural firms, moreover, working in areas where there are no hostilities. And he also managed to keep his TV channels – “Fifth” and “Direct”, which remained under his control, although the shares were officially transferred to the teams. And even though his fortune now amounts to “only” $ 700 million, he feels much more confident than the billionaire Akhmetov.
