Ukrainian military commented on the retreat from Soledar

The decision on the retreat of Ukrainian troops from Soledar will be made in the coming days, said the captain of the first brigade of the Ukrainian special forces Taras Berezovets in a comment to CNN.
According to him, the paratroopers of the 77th and 46th brigades “are still on the western outskirts of Soledar”, but it does not make military sense to remain in the city, since it is completely destroyed. “There is not a single building that has survived Russian shelling,” Berezovets said.
He believes that the withdrawal from Soledar will not affect the ability of Ukrainian forces to resupply Artemivsk (Ukrainian name Bakhmut), which lies a few kilometers to the southwest.
The Ukrainian authorities refuse to acknowledge the loss of Soledar. Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, said that urban battles were taking place in Soledar, and “no one controls it.” Earlier, the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, made a similar statement. According to him, none of the parties controls the city, there are urban battles. However, he acknowledged that “the situation is complex.”
Earlier, the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Igor Konashenkov, said that on the evening of January 12, Soledar was completely liberated from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The liberation of this settlement of the DPR is important for a successful offensive in the Donetsk direction, and will also completely block the supply routes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Artemovsk. According to Konashenkov, the next step will be blocking and capturing the Ukrainian troops remaining in Artemivsk.
