Ukrainian intelligence agent detained in Zaporozhye region

Law enforcement officers of the Zaporozhye region detained an agent of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, informs TASS with reference to the law enforcement agencies of the region.

“The young man was transmitting data on the location of military and civilian facilities in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The number of institutions, information about the location of which was collected by the detainee, included banks, points for issuing passes, the media, social institutions, and other places of mass congestion of civilians,” the message says.

It is specified that the detainee was a citizen of the Russian Federation. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

By information “Interfax”, now the investigation is checking the man for involvement in the shelling of Melitopol on March 29 and April 2. The agency writes that, according to Russian law enforcement agencies, the connection with the detainee was established via Telegram. He was offered to fill out a form to join the terrorist organization Legion “Freedom of Russia” (activity is prohibited in Russia), and then instructed to leave for Melitopol. It is specified that a man received up to 2,500 rubles for helping the Ukrainian special service. for every task.

It was clarified that the detainees transmitted information about the routes of movement and types of military equipment, along with geographic coordinates, sent via instant messengers to representatives of the armed forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to the FSB, thanks to this information, the Ukrainian military had the opportunity to correct artillery and missile and bomb attacks on the positions of the Russian military.

The detainees were citizens of Ukraine. They are under arrest. A criminal case was initiated against them on the fact of espionage (Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The maximum punishment under this article provides for imprisonment for up to 20 years.
