Germany’s arguments against supplying tanks to Ukraine are unconvincing, said Andrei Melnyk, deputy head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry and former ambassador to Berlin.
“The arguments why tanks are not supplied to Ukraine, in our opinion, are completely unconvincing. If the German government does not want to make deliveries alone, then Germany could play a leading role on the continent in this matter, create a European tank alliance, ”he said in an interview with RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland.
He urged German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to reconsider the “low-key attitude” to the supply of Leopard tanks and Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and to supply more ammunition.
Scholz said earlier that the FRG would not supply Western weapons, including tanks, unilaterally and without coordination with the allies.
Melnik called Scholz “an offended liverwurst” in May because of his refusal to go to Kyiv.
