The words of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban demonstrate his “pathological disregard” for Ukraine and his “political myopia”. This is stated in the official commentary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, published on the agency’s website.
“The statements of the Prime Minister of Hungary demonstrate a pathological disregard for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, <...> as well as his own political myopia,” the ministry said in a statement.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry explained that in the event of the defeat of Kyiv in the conflict with Moscow, Hungary could allegedly be threatened by the Russian Federation. Ukrainian diplomats felt that Orban was “indirectly calling on Ukraine to defeat.”
On December 24, in an interview with Magyar Nemzet, Orban declaredthat the conflict in Ukraine has dragged on and “is a danger.” According to him, a peaceful settlement of the situation depends on the actions of the United States. Orban believes that Kyiv will be able to resist Moscow as long as Washington sends weapons to Ukraine and supports it with money. “If Americans want peace [на Украине]there will be peace,” he said.
Orban also stressed that Hungary would not supply weapons to Ukraine, but would provide humanitarian assistance. The Prime Minister explained this decision by the fact that Budapest is guided by the interests of its security.
