Ukrainian expert considers a real threat of rising energy prices in Europe

In the upcoming winter, rising energy prices in Europe threaten Ukraine with a decrease in imports to cover demand. And it is not possible to compensate for it because of the low capacities of the energy system, Andrian Prokip, an analyst at the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, believes.
In August, the national company “Ukrenergo” repeatedly reported on the import and receipt of assistance from European countries to cover the emerging demand for electricity. The highest peak in electricity consumption was recorded on August 22. Then help from neighbors also set a record – 2000 MW per hour.
The risks of a cold winter capacity shortage and higher consumption, according to Prokip, which he expressed on social networks, are increasing significantly. To the risks, he added the issue of pricing in Europe this winter.
“It’s already getting too thin, it can tear in winter,” Prokip predicted.
