Ukrainian border guards have begun digging trenches on the border with Moldova, said Raisa Novitski, press officer of the Moldovan Border Police.

According to her, “colleagues from the State Border Service of Ukraine informed: the work is being carried out in order to prevent people from illegally crossing the state border.” In addition, ditches about two meters wide will help fight smuggling from Ukraine to Moldova.

Dug trenches can now be seen on the territory of Ukraine near checkpoints, as well as where roads pass close to the border between countries. The corresponding photos were published in the Moldovan telegram channels.

According to Chisinau, in 2022, more than six thousand attempts of illegal border crossing from the Ukrainian side were registered, which, as emphasized, was a record figure for several decades. In addition, an increase in attempts to export weapons from Ukraine is recorded.
