NYT: Ukrainian Armed Forces report hits by gliding bombs in underground bunkers
According to data received from Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters published by the newspaper The New York Times Russian aerial bombs equipped with universal planning and correction modules (UMPC) inflict significant losses on the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). When an ammunition with 500 kilograms of explosives falls, according to one of the military men, “it sounds like the gates of hell have opened,” and even underground bunkers do not protect against such bombs.
The director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces, Yuri Knutov, previously explained that the main advantage of such bombs is the ability to drop them from a height of up to 10 kilometers at a distance of up to 50 kilometers from the object. The bombs are highly accurate thanks to the use of the GLONASS navigation system, and aircraft such as the Su-34 are not at risk of being shot down, since the launch is carried out in an area that cannot be controlled by enemy air defenses.
