Ukraine’s national debt exceeded $132 billion

Ukraine’s public debt has reached a new record high, exceeding $132 billion, according to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.
As of July 31, the country’s public debt is $132.92 billion (or UAH 4.86 trillion). In July, it grew by $4 billion. As of June 30, the public debt was $128.81 billion.
Ukraine’s external debt is $90.77 billion (UAH 3.319 trillion), which is 68.29% of the total public debt. The domestic public debt of the country reached $42.15 billion (1.541 trillion hryvnia), or 31.71% of the total public debt.
At the beginning of 2023, Ukraine’s public debt was $111.38 billion. In six months, it grew by $17.43 billion, or 15.6%.
The budget for 2023 provides for an increase in the ceiling of public debt to $172.7 billion, which is 102.3% of the expected level of GDP for 2024. The state budget of Ukraine for 2023 provides for a deficit of $38 billion.
At the end of July, the head of the National Bank of the country Andrey Pyshny declaredthat Ukraine’s budget deficit is 26% of GDP. According to him, Kyiv is trying to solve the problem through international financial assistance. He noted that this year Ukraine expects to receive $42 billion, and in 2024 – at least $37 billion.
