Vice-President of the Ukrainian Association of International Road Carriers Vladimir Balin said that Ukraine lost more than €1 billion due to trucker strikes on the border with Poland. A day of downtime for one truck, according to him, costs about €300–350.
“The Ukrainian economy lost more than €1 billion due to the blockade. Poland is suffering even greater economic losses,” Vladimir Balin said at a briefing (quoted from Ukrinform).
He added that Ukrainian carriers are looking for ways to minimize losses. Some companies, as the vice-president of the association clarified, are redirecting trucks to the borders with Hungary, Slovakia and Romania.
Polish carriers began blocking checkpoints on the border with Ukraine in early November. They demand the resumption of issuing canceled permits to Ukrainian drivers for commercial transportation, with the exception of humanitarian aid and supplies for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Agency “RBC-Ukraine” December 17 reportedthat there are more than 2 thousand trucks stuck in a traffic jam on the border from Poland. Similar events are taking place in Slovakia And Hungary.
