Ukraine will complain to the WTO against Hungary, Poland and Slovakia due to the grain embargo

Ukraine today, September 18, will launch the process of filing a claim with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Hungary, Poland and Slovakia due to their extension of the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain contrary to the decision of the European Commission (EC). This was reported by Politico Deputy Head of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine Taras Kachka.
“It is important to prove that these actions are legally unlawful… For many years, the European Commission has been the mediator in trade negotiations and the trade policy institution for the entire EU. And we are used to working on this basis,” explained Mr. Kachka.
He explained that Poland’s decision “will affect a significant part of Ukrainian exports.” If Warsaw does not lift the restrictions it has imposed, Kyiv will respond by introducing a ban on the import of Polish vegetables and fruits, the deputy minister promised.
15 September EC didn’t extend the embargo on grain supplies from Ukraine to Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. Representatives of three Eastern European countries didn’t agree With this in mind, they limited the import of Ukrainian grain at the national level. Hungary also banned the import of 24 types of Ukrainian agricultural products. President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky promised take retaliatory measures.
