The government of Ukraine has decided to withdraw from the agreement with Russia on ensuring the parallel operation of the energy systems of the two states, said Taras Melnichuk, representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada.
“The agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Russian government on measures to ensure the parallel operation of the unified energy system of Ukraine and the unified energy system of the Russian Federation has been terminated,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.
The agreement was signed in July 2012 and implied, in particular, the obligation of both parties to ensure the proper technical condition and operation of power grid facilities, as well as coordinated planning and management of the modes of parallel operation of the two systems.
In early August, the Ukrainian government adopted an energy security strategy until 2025, which, among other things, provides for the cessation of electricity imports from Russia and Belarus, as well as physical separation from the energy networks of these two countries and integration with European operators.
