The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NACP) of Ukraine has excluded the Hungarian OTP Bank from the blacklist of “international war sponsors”. The press service of the department reported this.
“OTP Bank has made a number of commitments regarding its future plans in the Russian market. NAPC, fulfilling its part of the agreement, has removed the bank from the list of international “war sponsors” and expects that the bank will immediately fulfill its obligations,” the statement said.
Ukraine added OTP Bank and a number of other Hungarian and Greek companies to the list of “international war sponsors” in May 2023. In early June, Greece and Hungary criticized the 11th package of anti-Russian sanctions of the European Union and delayed its adoption by three weeks.
At the end of September, Ukraine suspended the “war sponsor” status of OTP Bank and five other blacklisted companies. The country hoped that in response to this step, Hungary would unblock a tranche of 500 million euros ($524.8 million at the exchange rate as of October 2), which the EU planned to use to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Hungarian authorities did not agree to this condition and demanded a complete delisting for the bank.
