Ukraine and Poland agreed to unblock the transit of Ukrainian grain. This was announced by the First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko following the results of the negotiations that took place in Warsaw, the Strana edition reports.
“We treat the problems that our Polish colleagues have with the same attention as Poland treats our problems. Therefore, we must respond quickly and constructively to this crisis. Based on the results of the negotiations, it was decided that the transit of Ukrainian agricultural goods through the territory of Poland would be unblocked,” she said.
According to Sviridenko, transit will be unblocked on the night of April 21-22.
April 15 Poland and Hungary restricted import of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine until June 30. After that, the Minister of Development and Technology of Poland, Waldemar Buda, explained on his Twitter that the ban would also apply to transit through the country. He added that the issue of transit will be discussed with Ukraine – his condition will be guarantees that the goods will only be transported through the territory of the country, and will not remain in it. The European Commission called this decision unacceptable.
Since December 2022, local farmers have been complaining about an oversupply of Ukrainian products on the market. On January 30, a report prepared by Poland was published on the website of the Council of Europe, which noted that due to the simplified export, the supply of Ukrainian products to neighboring countries increased in some cases by thousands of times, which led to overcrowding of warehouses and difficulties for local producers. The document was also published on behalf of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
