UK to give Ukraine six underwater drones

The UK will supply Ukraine with underwater drones to clear approaches to ports in the Black Sea to ensure the export of grain from the country, reports TASS with reference to a widespread statement by the Ministry of Defense of the kingdom.

It is noted that a total of six unmanned underwater vehicles will be transferred to Ukraine: three of them will be taken from the stocks of the British Armed Forces, and the rest will be additionally purchased from defense companies. These devices can operate at a depth of up to 100 meters, helping to detect a mine using sensors.

In addition, the British side, together with the United States, will train Ukrainian Navy personnel in the handling of underwater drones in the coming months. The Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom clarified that the first group of Ukrainian military personnel has already begun training.

“This is important equipment and the training will help Ukraine secure its waters, facilitate the export of grain to other countries, and also allow us to support the Armed Forces in protecting the coastline and its ports,” said British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace.

25 August UK signed an agreement with Ukraine on providing assistance in the restoration of infrastructure. It is noted that under the signed agreement, the UK will provide Ukraine with the assistance of experts from British private companies and enterprises in the restoration of airports, runways and ports.

According to the press service of the British government, at the moment the total amount of assistance allocated to Ukraine by the UK is almost 4 billion pounds in the form of multilateral loan guarantees and more than 100 million pounds of bilateral support.

On the eve of resigning British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the allocation of a new package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 54 million pounds. It included 200 modern unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), ammunition, as well as 850 manually launched Black Hornet microdrones, which are designed for use in cities and villages.

Earlier it was reported that the United States, in turn, will allocate $ 89 million to Ukraine for the training of sappers who will have to deal with mine clearance. It is assumed that part of the funds allocated by the United States will go to train 100 groups of Ukrainian sappers, while the rest is intended to purchase the necessary equipment, including metal detectors, personal protective equipment, and special vehicles. We are talking about the clearance of land mines only.
