UK drops investigation into Friedman

The UK has stopped investigating Russian businessman Mikhail Fridman, whom London suspected of circumventing sanctions. reported Bloomberg citing the kingdom’s National Crime Agency (NCA).
“The NCA can confirm that it will not be taking any further action against Mikhail Fridman based on the warrant issued at Athlone House in December 2022,” the agency said.
The agency clarified that the investigation continues, but in relation to other suspects.
After the start of the military operation in Ukraine and subsequent sanctions from Western countries, Fridman left the supervisory board Alfa Bank. The NCA investigation is related to a possible violation of the sanctions regime. Friedman, as the agency reported, issued a bank loan to his assistant to circumvent the restrictions.
It was reported in April that the NCA had stopped its review. Then the Financial Times wrotethat the department stopped the investigation on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and giving false testimony, but continued the investigation on suspicion of money laundering.
