UK Defense Secretary Wallace announces resignation

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace announced his decision to step down transmits sky news.

“Last month marked my fourth year as Secretary of State for Defense. It also marks my ninth year as minister. I had the honor to serve you and your predecessors in the defense of this great country and the security of its citizens. <…> After much deliberation, I have decided to ask to be allowed to resign,” he said.

The decision comes ahead of a reshuffle in British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s cabinet that is planned for the fall.

After retiring, Wallace plans to pursue areas of life that he previously “neglected” and “explore new opportunities.”

The fact that Wallace plans to leave the post of Minister of Defense of Great Britain, he reported in an interview with The Times. “I started politics in the Scottish Parliament in 1999. It’s 24 years old. For over seven years, I had three phones next to my bed,” he said.

Among the possible candidates for the post of Minister of Defense, The Times sources named Deputy Treasury Secretary for Economic Affairs John Glen, Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Tom Tugendhat and Deputy Foreign Minister for Indo-Pacific Affairs Anne-Marie Trevelyan.

Great Britain is one of the most ardent supporters of Ukraine in the West, it supplied weapons to Kyiv even before the start of the special operation, but then the volume of military assistance increased many times over, and the range of supplies was also expanded. On July 12, in response to criticism from Ukraine over the supply of weapons, Wallace said that the UK is not an Amazon delivery service. He also urged Kyiv to be more grateful for the support it has already received. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak disagreed with Wallace’s words.
